Thirty odd years ago when Leo Kessler (aka Charles Whiting) published his first edition of this book (York Blitz), he gave the Yorkshire Evening Press and the Yorkshire Post, the account, somewhat tongue in cheek, of his own experience as a 15 year old teenager in the ‘Great York Blitz’. Now six decades later, it gives me the greatest of pleasure to introduce a new third edition of one of Charles Whiting’s favourite books (he has written over 300 and still at it) to a new public in Yorkshire, and the world for that matter. Whether young or old, reading it for the first time or just refreshing your own experience during those fateful years, as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of VE Day, we will remember them.
