The second 'American' volume contains 146 pages and begins with a study of the formation of the St Mihiel Salient and continues the story of that area to the armistice. This section is quite short and from page 19 visits to the battlefields are described. A great deal of information is included in the visits and they are 1 Verdun to Commercy, 2 Commercy to Metz via Pont-à-Mousson, and 3 Metz to Verdun. During these tours familiar places like Prêtre Wood, Apremont Forest and Calonne trench make an appearance.
