Synopsis: In the 1970s, A J Peacock edited a journal called York History. This is the complete run of York History with some additional material added by the editor. The book contains important articles from the history of a major city with all of them based on original research and in areas not hitherto covered by historians. Some examples are “George Hudson and the Historians”, a study of how the old Railway King has been treated in print; “York and the Resurrection Men” – about the body snatchers; “Charles Dickens in York”; “Feargus O’Connor at York”; “Dickens on Jonathan Martin”; “Henry Gyle’s Guildhall Window”;’ and “Zeppelins and York”. The last named article is a report from a local newspaper and each issue has a collection of reviews.
