The cover image is of Donald Simpson Bell, a pre-war professional footballer and the winner of the VC. An article about him appears as “Donald Simpson Bell, VC, Some Discursive Notes and Some Unpublished Letters”. The letters were then in possession of a Bell relative. Gun Fire 31 also has an article on “British Divisional Commanders of the Great War” – a response to an earlier contribution to the journal, and another with the self explanatory title – “Sentenced to Death. The Public Record Office Court Martial Files Extracts”.
