The cover of 48 carries a splendid drawing of a 1917 tank with fascines in place and the contents include the completion of Becke’s article on Cambrai (started in No.47). The drawing is by Brian Kesteven and “Notes and Queries” carries another extract from Behind the Scenes in Many Wars. This about the Dardanelles. Item 903 is on what Paul Fussell called “road humour and orderly insults”. It is by the editor and is largely about that well known work of art – the song known to all as “Colonel Bogey”. That tune has had many words given to it – many are included in this scholarly, yet affectionate piece.
