The Western Battlefields

£5.00
Even during the war trips, to the Great War battlefields (as to those of the Marne) were organised, and it was not long after hostilities ceased before many impressive guides for the tourist - and particularly the motorist - appeared, and amongst these are the famous Michelin Guides to the Battlefields. The first of these was a large work on the Marne, and many others followed, a large number of which have been magnificently reproduced by G. H. Smith & Son. They should be in every World War enthusiast's collection. An advertisement for them appears on the last page of this work. The Western Battlefields - A Guide to the British Lines was written by a high-ranking soldier with, primarily, the walker in mind. The work is reproduced exactly as it was in the original, and the line drawings in the margins are in the same colours as used in 1920. Many of the photographs used by Col. Lowe have since become very familiar and (understandably) famous. They are not always located exactly and the reader might well enjoy identifying them. Many were eventually used in the famous Daily Mail series of postcards.
